The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac

Introduce your students to the power of performance as a tool for cultural understanding with The Great Race. This fast-paced, educational show uses vibrant puppetry, Jingju-inspired martial arts, lion dance rhythms, and traditional Chinese music to tell the origin story of the Chinese Zodiac. Rooted in oral history and folklore, the show supports language arts through fables and work songs, while reinforcing history and social studies concepts around Chinese heritage and Lunar New Year traditions. Throughout the race, themes of resilience, bravery, and self-awareness emerge, creating strong connections to social-emotional learning. The Great Race celebrates diversity and invites students to reflect on their own traditions and strengths. It’s a joyful, multi-disciplinary journey your classroom won’t forget!
